The Contradiction of Power

Monsters crawl from their hiding place.

The townsfolk cower, as they should.

Guardsmen fight as peasants escape.

They have no power in this world.

-

Then come heroes: adventurers.

Breaking boundaries and records.

Testing the limits of mortality.

Pushing past maximum capacity.

-

A clash of wills. A test of mettle.

A severed limb. A wound of flesh.

A tragic past. A debt to settle.

Beaten down to the edge of death.

-

A warning to heroes, for they are unaware:

A limit where power limits them in turn.

An immortal is burdened by those in its care.

It’s the reason gods don’t walk the earth.
