Slinwey on Trial

This is an interesting find. It seems I mistook prosecution for persecution. Anyway, let's take a look at this free write from 5-31-22.

Judge: “The Zone of Truth is up on the witness stand. Witnesses who resist the Zone of Truth will be imprisoned for perjury.Persecution , you may bring in your first witness.

Persecution: “I would like to call the Defendant, Slinwey, to the stand.”

Slinwey walk up to the stand and enters the Zone of Truth. The resident Paladin bids their head, indicating that the Zone of Truth has taken effect on the witness.

Persecution: “Did you, Slinwey, kidnap the victim, [Redacted] and his family?”

The victim smiles. With a Zone of Truth, all you need to deliver a verdict is to confront the accused suspect directly. They can’t lie, so this always gives an accurate response.

Slinwey: “No, I did not kidnap anybody.”

The Persecution frowns. “Do you know what I mean when I say ‘kidnap?’ I am asking if you took him to ‘Fairyland.’”

Slinwey: “How should I answer? They didn’t go willingly, so I can’t say that. But they didn’t refuse or reject going? So how am I supposed to say that I took them to Fairyland if they went neither willingly nor willed to leave? Nobody went to Fairyland.”

The Persecution grimaces and gives a harsh look to the victim. The victim feels that he might cry. Slinwey even has the Persecution convinced. What hope does the victim have that Slinwey will receive a guilty verdict?

Judge: “Is there anything else you would like to add, Persecution.”

Persecution: “No, that’s all.”

Judge: “Defense, would you like to cross examine the witness?”

The Defense is trying to hold back a laughter and can’t help but grin.

Defense: “N-no, your Honor. I think Persecution has made the point clear.”

When the Persecution returns to his seat, Victim whispers to the Persecutor. “She’s lying. I don’t know how,  she’s lying. I can prove it. Bring me up to the stand as the witness.”

Persecution: “Perjury is a very serious offense, if you get caught trying to trick the Zone of-“

Victim: “I don’t have to worry about anything because I know that my story is true.”

Persecutor: “Very well, we’ve already lost. Might as well go out with a bang.”

Judge: “Defense, would you like to bring up your first witness?”

Defense: “No thanks, your Honor. I don’t believe any further witnesses will be necessary to corroborate my client’s story.”

Judge: “Very well, in that case, we’ll leave to the Jury to-“

Persecution: “I still have another witness.”

Judge: “Ah, yes. If you wish, you may bring in your witness.”

Persecution: “I would like to bring my client, the victim, up to the stand.”

Slinwey has long since returned to her seat. She narrows her eyes at [Redacted]
