Progenitor
The worldbuilding of Progenitor.
I imagine those giant four-armed creatures from Serious Sam that are different colors and sizes and can all shoot giant glowing balls at the player to harm them. The description says that they joined the bad guy’s army in exchange for magical the magical powers we see them use to attack us with.
But that is only a resemblance in appearance. The creatures in Progenitor are nothing like those of Serious Sam. I have yet to give name for the species of creature of Progenitor. I developed them, initially as a thought experiment. What would happen if your parents had actual control over you instead of vague authority? What if parental authority was an actual ability to mental command their children? They could even take full body control of a child if they wished.
There was a few problems. Parents have parents. This might interfere with the commands and controls that a parent would give a child. Also, marriage. I considered the idea of marriage. I two people become one in marriage, they would act as one unit, with both of their parents controlling them.
Then I took that idea and went flying with it. Now, I will tell you of what I currently have in ideas.
Instead of Marriage, or maybe marriage is a term for this. There is merging. Two beings literally merge with each other to become another being of their combined mass. Essentially, this would about double the mass and size.
I still imagined these all as those monsters from Serious Sam, so don’t get weird on me with melting humans becoming hulking beasts, there are no humans in Progenitor.
There are different generations in system as hierarchy.
All of the creatures can reproduce, but they do it asexually. They simply fertilize their self with a few internal organs and suddenly, their pregnant. The lower generations, those that are ones are smaller, give birth faster than their larger kin.
As each time a creature merges, it becomes twice in size, it’s pregnancy is also, now twice as long. So, usually only the bottom generations give birth. The higher ups would only give birth if they wanted to have a child that only they controlled.
Nobody ever dies. The closest thing to dying is merging, but it’s not really the same thing, since all bonds of control and command are then combined to the new creature.
If Creature A is commanded by Parents A, and Creature B is commanded by Parents B…
If Creature commands Children A, and Creature B commands Children B…
Then if Creature A and Creature B merge, The New Creature: Creature AB would be commanded by Parents A and Parents B, but the Creature AB would also have command over Children A and Children B.
All creatures are only able to merge with their own generation.
Generation 1 cannot have children; they cannot give birth.
There is strange scenario. Let’s see five generations
Creature 5 is parent of and commands
Creature 4, who is parent of and commands
Creature 3, who is parent of and commands
Creature 2, who is parent of and commands
Creature 1.
Creature 1 is the same generation as Creature 1A, Creature 1B, Creature 1C, Creature 1D, Creature 1E, Creature 1F, Creature 1G, Creature 1H, Creature 1I, Creature 1J, Creature 1K, Creature 1L, Creature 1M, Creature 1N
Creature 1 merges with Creature 1A to become Creature 2A
Creature 1B merges with Creature 1C to become Creature 2BC
Creature 1D merges with Creature 1E to become Creature 2DE
Creature 1F merges with Creature 1G to become Creature 2FG
Creature 1H merges with Creature 1I to become Creature 2HI
Creature
All these merged Creatures are now of generation 2.
But Creatures 2, 3, 4 and 5 still control Creature 2A, who was once Creature 1.
Creature 2A merges with Creature 2BC to become Creature 3ABC
Creature 2DE merges with Creature 2FG to become Creature 3DEFG
Creature 2HI merges with Creature
Because there is also a weird thing about control.
Since everybody controls their children, and all creatures are descended from the Progenitor, the Progenitor can control every creature.
