Dream: Quadrilateral

“Lateral” means side,

That’s why “Quadrilateral” has four lines.

Like Law of Gravity and Moon Tide.

But in Fairyland, rules don’t apply.

-

Eat the cake; eat the pie.

Leave nothing but crust, here’s the reason why:

This derby race they’ve organized

Doesn’t use potatoes, no, it uses the rinds

-

Of the fruit that we’ve consumed.

Fairykind is not amused

At my use of Citrus fuels,

Since berries are what we’re supposed to use.

-

With Lateral Step, I walk up walls,

Defy gravity and Nature’s Laws.

But who’s chasing me? I hope I don’t fall

Right into their teeth and into their claws!

-

It looks like they want a piece

Of my juicy flesh to eat.

Well, too bad, if you want a treat,

You’ll never have a taste of my meat.

-

Now I’m racing faster than the derby.

Want to catch me? Better hurry.

At the top of a tree, but I’m not worried.

I know that you could never hurt me.

-

If we met face to face,

I’d have to eviscerate

Your Citrus pulp to the plate.

So just accept your fate.

-

Broken and bruised,

No one wants to eat you.

You’re a rotten fruit

About to get the boot.

-

Finally I can watch the race now that they’re gone,

Though something about this place seems wrong.

Bones and stones scattered across the lawn.

And a quadrilateral floating in the garden.

-

So the strange shape, I investigate.

But I get too close and I get stuck in place,

Hovering in the air, nothing I can reach

Except the quadrilateral gently spinning.

-

A two-dimensional object in three-dimensional space.

What did I really expect was gonna take place?

I’m no longer just out of reach, I’m out of shape.

And time just died on me, we won’t finish this race.
